How is Freight Moved? |
On Lorries, Pallets and in Shipping Containers |
|
Small Items |
Small items eg Pilot breweries etc can be loaded onto a pallet and sent on international journeys by pallet freight. The goods can be uplifted from our premises or delivered into a freight depot for onward shipment |
|
Medium Items |
Medium items such as 400L breweries can be loaded on to small vans for road delivery in Europe, or they can be collected from our premises, or loaded into a 10ft or 20ft container. |
|
Large Items |
Large items such as 800L and 1600L breweries can be loaded onto articulated lorries for road transport to EU, or loaded into Shipping containers for sea freight. |

|
Extra Time |
The journey will take longer than transit time, eg journeys to and from port, and time for Customs checks, the customs will search the container on both docksides. for contraband etc. Add at least 14 days to tranisit time |
|
Paperwork |
Within the EU no additonal paperwork is required, other than an invoice of sale. Outside the EU a full set of export documents is required. This is usually part of the service provided by the Shipping agents. For Raw materials phytosanitary (health) certificates can be provided. On arrival import taxes may be payable, sometimes these can be negotiated. |
|
Agents |
Shipping agents, Freight agents, Haulage firms etc are used to handle transport. They are experienced in handling large consignments. Often we find that UK agents are more expensive than local agents. This is because of high taxation on fuel in the UK. Often it is cheaper to arrange a pick up from the clients home country on a back load. Agents usually handle all the export documentation by their specialist email system, which provides all export tariff codes (GATT) |
|
Costs |
See the note above, eg 20ft container to Melbourne £1500GBP, Mobassa £1500 GBP, Trans-Atlantic £1500 GBP. 40ft containers cost approx £2500GBP |

Electricity |
The standard brewery systems use UK power standards which is 415/220vac. This means 3 phase electricity at 415 vac or single phase electricity at 220vac. This standard is used in much of the world. In other countries the power standard is 220/110v ac. This means 3 phase electricity at 220v ac and single phase electricity at 110v ac. This means that the latter system can be used to power UK devices at 220vac, including the standard breweries. This method uses "phase to phase" wiring at the incoming distribution board. Alternatively it is possible to purchase a diesel powered generator or we can modify the electrical system on the system (a premium modification) |
